Two weeks in South of North Borneo, Tawau

Ok.

So there I was, sitting in my office in a hot sunny afternoon and suddenly my immediate boss came by and asked whether I can go to Sabah for a job assignment over there in Tawau. Without much hesitation and thinking that I had never been there, immediately I agreed to his orders There i was, starting 11 Sept (what a coincidence!), flew there on a B734 on a 2 hours and 50 minutes flight to Tawau (TWU).

everything goes mobile nowadays...

Safely arrived at Tawau Airport at around 1500hrs and went to the site i will be working on the next 10 days. What i can mention here is that working with the locals was very good. They were helpful in some occasions and I was pleased and glad that their working attitude and helpfulness were at high, not like some time ago when I was in Sandakan. But not all of them were helpful, some are still hard to deal on and are not hardworking. But then I forgive them as working in such a big GLC that was a former government department, some of the workers in regions outside of KL are still department-minded, working in silos and are very hard in giving helping hands. Furthermore, most of them are in their near-retirement age and work is their least priority.

What on earth are these two cars carrying Semenanjung registration numbers doing here in Sabah?

However, it was not the main story here. One of the main reason I was glad to accept my boss' offer to work on site here was that I would like to see the people, lifestyle, and colours of the environment in here.

My first 3 days here was quite amusing, trying to adapt with people here, all the staffs and the contractors. Stayed in various budget hotels just to know which one's the best. Sorry I can't put the pics here because I've wiped off all the pictures of the hotels I've stayed in my phone.

Going to Tawau, worry not about the accomodation here as there are plenty of places to stay. Mostly situated in the heart of town, prices started from as low as RM50. There are also 3 stars hotels such as Promenade Hotel, LA Hotel, and MB Hotel.

Tawau, from my view, is a city where Muslims are majority. Another interesting view was that I can see that apart from other districts in Sabah, Tawau is a city where the number of mosques are larger than any other religious places and much more spread across the district.

Most people said that dining here is much cheaper than in KL but not to me, until one day, when my contractor brought me to a place where you can buy lunch at RM3 per head! I guess I was wrong then, since mostly I dined in local restaurants not in stalls as my contractor brought me.
